Potential

I have a friend from high school who joined the church then fell away. His reasoning is that we believe we can become Gods. Well:
Lets say there is this incredible race car driver named...um. Oliver.
Oliver is the greatest race car driver ever.
Let’s say Oliver takes an uneducated kid on, who doesn’t know anything about racing. We’ll call him...Tim.
So Oliver takes Tim out to the track and gives him a go-cart and tells him to learn how to drive it. Well Tim does. First he learns to start it and basic functions of the car and engine. Then he learns the rules of the track. Then he gets on the track and starts driving. He learns to drive the go-cart and pushes it to the limits of it capabilities. Oliver sees Tim and continually watches him as he progresses. When Oliver sees Tim he is full of love and compassion for him and when it is time, and Tim is ready, he gives him a regular car.
Well Tim goes out and starts driving the regular car. He stalls a few times and has a few wrecks but Oliver gives him a mechanic to help him fix his engine and tune it up regularly. Oliver watches as Tim learns and struggles to figure out the tricks of the track and learns where to give it gas and where to put on the breaks, when to go and when to stop. Oliver watches with patience as Tim fumbles around the track. Time and time again.
Tim watches others whom Oliver has also taken in and given the chance to run the track. There are people who are at all levels from go-carts to tricked out cars (like the cheat), and even some who have race cars and the power they put out shakes the very foundation of the track. As Tim watches and learns and progresses, Oliver continually gives things here and there. He gives to help in Tim's progression. As Tim progresses and has tricked his car out and is still pushing the limits of the cars capabilities and is in control of his car at all times, knows how to control the power, the speed and the fatigue and pain of this sort of power. Once Oliver is confident in Tim's ability to handle being a race car driver Oliver invites him into his house to live with him. He gives him a real race car a new helmet and new protective clothes. He gives him a car that is more than Tim has ever seen. Tim is amazed. Tim races all the time and loves to be on the track. He races all the time and keeps getting better and better as he learns the higher rules of the bigger cars, bigger tracks, more power, more speed and longer races that bring more fatigue and pain. Then Tim in his progression is able to build his own house and eventually builds his own track. Tim, in time, has gained enough knowledge to pass on to others as he was fortunate enough to have received the kindness, patience, love, guidance and knowledge from Oliver. He now wants to pass on the knowledge to those who truly want to race. The uneducated kids Tim takes on are so grateful that he has given them the chance to get on the track. Their gratitude makes Tim's heart grateful for Oliver and all He has done for him.
Is Tim not a race car driver? Just because he wasn’t born a full grown, full of all the knowledge, skills, abilities, and strength he has acquired over time, it doesn’t mean he is not a race car driver.
The lord has promised to those who are willing to humble themselves and follow him, ALL THAT HE HATH. ALL! Not a little bit or a corner or a guest house. ALL! What the Father has is knowledge. That is something that is gained through a lifetime of dedication, determination and faith.
I want all that the father hath. I want to build worlds without number with my wife(s). I want to create spirit children with my wife. I want these things. This business of people turning away from the gospel because we believe that we are capable of progression is crazy to me. This is the very purpose of life. This is something and a reason I am still here. This is the very reason I love the gospel so much. I have that potential. I will forever be grateful to our Father in Heaven for an opportunity to come to Earth and have a chance to progress and become as he is. Even a God!
